“垂直磁場下の軸対称な2次元電子系に、光渦を外部磁場に平行に照射したとき、ランダウ準位間の励起(最低ランダウ準位のみが詰まった状態を仮定しています)によって光電流が誘起されるためには、全角運動量J=1の光渦しか吸収されないという強い制限がかかります。結果、円偏光の光渦では、正ヘリシティ(スピン角運動量S=1)に対し軌道角運動量L=0、または、負ヘリシティ(スピン角運動量S=-1)に対しL=2のものしか吸収されないという選択則が得られました。
一方で、光渦の大きな特徴として、有限強度の明リングと、強度0の暗リングを持つというものがありますが、暗リングが円盤試料の縁とちょうど一致した時には、光電流が誘起されないとの結果を得ました。これは、光電流の荷い手が、バルク電流ではなく、全てエッジ電流が荷っているがゆえに起きる現象であるという結論です(光渦の強度プロファイルが光電流のプローブとして機能すると言っても良いと思います)。
それを示すFig.3は、外部磁場を横軸に、光電流の強度に対応する量を縦軸にしてプロットしていますが、ここは要注意ポイントで、サイズ固定の試料にかけた外部磁場を変化させると光電流強度が変わるという単純な意味ではなく、外部磁場を変えるとサイクロトロン振動数が変わり、それに応じて、(サイクロトロン共鳴を起こし続けるために、手で)光の波長を操作した結果、暗リングのサイズが変化するというロジックになっています。“

有機ー無機ハイブリッド二次元ペロブスカイト化合物(C2H5NH3)2[FeIICl4](EAFC)は強弾性、強誘電、弱強磁性を示す化合物として古くから研究されてきた。しかしながら過去に報告された論文では、結晶空間群がまちまちであったり、強誘電転移についても異なる報告が散見されていた。本論文では、10Kから400Kまでの構造解析を詳細に行い、化合物中のイオン間距離についても温度変化を詳細にしらべ、磁気物性についても単結晶で詳細に行った結果、強弾性転移がエチルアンモニウムのオーダーディスオーダー転移であること、磁気ヒステリシスが強弾性ドメイン由来であることが示唆される結果を得た。

2次元層状ぺロブスカイト化合物の塩化鉄アミン錯体は、強弾性、強誘電、傾角磁性を示すものが多く、分子性のマルチフェロイック化合物として注目されている。その中のメチルアミン錯体では、空間群と強誘電移転に関して多くの論文で異なった結果が報告されていた。またすべての論文で傾角磁性が報告されていた。本論文では詳細な、構造解析の温度変化測定により、極低温下まで対称心がある空間群であることを突き止め、低温化での磁性がHidden Canted Antiferromagnet(隠された傾角磁性)であることを証明し、これまでの1970年代からの長い論争に決着をつけた。

Cr-Mn系キラル分子磁性体(通称グリーンニードル)のESR測定において、多重スペクトルが磁気転移温度以下で観測されることは知られていた(2006年)。しかし、その現象を理解する上でキラルソリトン格子の描像を当てはめるべきかについては疑念が持たれていた。そこで、同試料のESRス実験を改めて実施し、そこで得られたESRスペクトルに対してフーリエ解析を行い、多重性を複数の基本モードに分解することに成功した。その基本モードの周期性は磁気秩序点以下で特徴的な温度変化を示した。過去の非線形磁化率の結果と照らし合わせてその温度依存性を理解しようとすると、キラル配位子の存在による複数の非等価な磁気サイトの存在を考えたくなる。今回の物質で見られたESRの多重スペクトルは常磁性領域で観測される超微細構造とは異質であり、ESRを利用した固体物性研究に新たな研究分野を登場させるきっかけになることを期待させる。

5d系酸化物は、5d軌道の大きなスピン-軌道(SO)相互作用に由来した金属絶縁体転移や量子コンピューターに応用可能なキタエフ液体の可能性があり注目を集めています。このような様々な物性を明らかにするためには、まず、はじめに、大きなSO相互作用と電子間のクーロン相互作用とによる5d電子の電子状態の変化を明確に理解する必要があります。
SO相互作用の小さな3d電子系の電子状態を解析する際、まずクーロン相互作用を厳密に取扱い、次にSO相互作用を摂動的に取り入れる(”LS結合”と呼ばれています)方法を用います。一方、4d、5d系のようにSO相互作用が大きくなった時、その相互作用を摂動的に取り入れることができないため、3d系と同様な方法は用いることはできません。このような時は、まず、スピン軌道相互作用を厳密に取り入れ、次に、クーロン相互作用を摂動的に取り入れる”JJ結合”を用います。しかし、現実の5d系ではクーロン相互作用とスピン軌道相互作用は同程度に(もしくはSO相互作用が少し小さく)なることが知られており、LS結合、JJ結合どちらも正しいとは言えません。現実の系は、LS結合とJJ結合の間のどの辺りに位置しているのかを調べる必要があります。
そこで、我々は5d系酸化物NaOsO3の電子状態を解析することで、この系がLS結合とJJ結合の間のどの辺に位置しているかを検討しました。この系は、Osイオンが6つの酸素に囲まれており、酸素の結晶場により生じたOsイオンのt2g軌道に3つのd電子が占有しています。そこで、我々は、t2g軌道に3つの電子が占有した有効模型を構築し、その模型を厳密対角化法を用いて解析しました。その結果、LS結合からJJ結合に向かうに伴いd電子のg因子が小さくなることを明かにしました。また、中性子散乱実験を用いて磁気モーメントの大きさが測定されており、実験と理論を比較した結果、現実の物質は、LS結合とJJ結合の電子状態を部分的に含んだ中間の電子状態をもった領域に位置していることがわかりました。
現実の物質では結晶構造から、t2g軌道を占める電子のスピン間にジャロシンスキー・守谷(DM)相互作用が働いていることが知られています。DM相互作用はキタエフ液体に影響を与えると考えられています。しかし、LS結合とJJ結合の中間に存在する現実の系でのDM相互作用を導出する方法はまだ知られてなく、今回の研究がその相互作用を導出するための出発点になるのではないかと期待されています。
